Why we have chosen Presot

Since 1933 in the Presot Tannery time has been ‘flowing’, just like the water which is at the heart of production.

Why did we choose Presot?

Presot leather is produced using only water and vegetable tannins.

The tanning process is time consuming and the hides remain immersed in hundred -year -old baths for months, using the Presot process.

The leather derived from this process is completely natural, impermeable and holds a characteristic natural perfume.

Water is the main ingredient in the productive process.

A small lake belonging to the tannery powers production and a hydro electric power station.

Almost all of the energy utilised in the productive cycle comes from renewable sources.

New plants are planted to compensate for carbon dioxide emissions.

Waste water is purified and continues it’s journey back into the lake valley.

Residual mud is used in agriculture reducing the environmental impact.

It is an elastic, flexible leather which ages and doesn’t spoil.

The prime material comes from GMO free pastures and from non-intensive breeding, it is exclusively salt cured.

The productive journey is traceable and ensures the origins of the components in transformation are identifiable, creating a completely ‘green’ process.

Nothing is wasted, residual salt is transformed into anti-freeze for roads, offcuts of raw material are regenerated.

This unique process ensures that the tannery remains a harmonic element of the environment which houses it.

“Vegetable tanned leather contains the memory of what it once was and absorbs the traces of the lives of those who wear it.”
